What is the role of intraperitoneal (IP) chemotherapy in women with advanced ovarian cancer with no tumours of >1cm left behind following surgery?

Chemotherapy may be injected directly into the abdominal cavity. This is called intraperitoneal (IP) chemotherapy.

IP treatment has not been chosen as the standard of care because it is more toxic and it is difficult to deliver all the planned treatment. Instead, participation in a clinical trial which involves the patient being treated with IP chemotherapy is recommended.
